Down or synthetic insulation: which is better?
Down is warmer, lighter and packs smaller, so it suits cold, dry conditions. Synthetic insulation keeps warming when damp and costs less, so it suits wet weather.

What is a softshell jacket?
A softshell is a stretchy, breathable jacket that resists wind and light rain. It suits active use like hiking and running better than a fully waterproof shell.

How should a jacket fit?
It should allow room for a mid-layer underneath without restricting your arm movement. The sleeves should cover your wrists when you reach forward.

How do I look after my jacket?
Wash it at a low temperature with a technical-fabric detergent, avoid fabric softener, and reproof waterproof jackets when water stops beading on the surface.
