Description
The Citadel Mitt has been developed in collaboration with our team of climber’s and Alpinists for whom it’s one of the first bits of kit in their pack on big, cold routes. Used all over the world on first ascents at over 7000m and some of the most difficult modern winter alpine lines they’re essential for maintaining warmth and dexterity on belays, summit pushes or when following easier ground. They’re also strongly recommended by expedition companies for those attempting 5-7000m peaks, especially in the Himalaya, Karakoram and South America.
A two part system comprises an outer and inner mitt. The outer mitt has 3 layers of Primaloft© Gold insulation [170g/m2] over the back of the hand and Primaloft© Gold grip [135g/m2] over the palm for maximum warmth whilst maintaining the ability to grip an axe and other basic functions. The Primaloft© Gold fill is the best available for this function with exceptional insulation that keeps working even when wet and resists compression better than down. A Drilite© Loft 20D shell is highly water resistant and fast drying whilst the Goatskin leather and polyamide palm provides grip and protection from ropes and other abrasion.
The inner mitt shares the same Drilite© Loft 20D fabric but used in conjunction with EXOLITE softshell fabric and a leather palm insert. It has a pile lining for exceptional warmth and next-to-skin comfort when no liner glove is worn. The single finger design gives increased dexterity without sacrificing as much warmth as a glove.
The inner and outer mitts can be used together or separately and on some hard routes many of our team will pull the outer over a climbing glove between pitches when they’re balancing absolute warmth against the requirements of crux pitches.
