The Mountain Equipment Makalu Jacket is a robust waterproof shell built with 75D GORE-TEX ePE 3-layer fabric for reliable protection during mountaineering, trekking and year-round mountain use. Designed for walkers, climbers and mountaineers facing prolonged rain, strong winds and demanding terrain, it balances durability, comfort and packability for all-day wear. Featuring a 28,000mm hydrostatic head and RET <20, it delivers verified waterproof and breathable performance in severe weather conditions.

• GORE-TEX ePE Weather Protection. Engineered with 75D GORE-TEX ePE 3-layer fabric (139gsm) and a PFAS-free DWR finish, providing dependable waterproof, windproof and breathable protection during prolonged rain, winter drizzle and exposed mountain conditions.

• Mountain-Ready Mobility. Built with an Alpine Fit, articulated patterning and pre-shaped sleeves that allow unrestricted movement when carrying a pack, climbing, using trekking poles or handling technical equipment.

• Helmet-Compatible Mountain Hood. Designed with a fully adjustable Mountain Helmet Compatible Hood featuring a laminated and wired visor, rear volume adjustment and frontal adjusters to maintain visibility and protection in strong winds and poor weather.

• Ventilation for High-Output Efforts. Engineered with YKK® WR underarm pit zips that allow rapid heat release and moisture management during steep ascents, humid conditions and strenuous mountain travel.

Care & Longevity

Hand wash or machine wash at 30°C using liquid detergent or a specialist cleaner. Tumble dry on low heat with a slow spin speed, or line dry and reactivate the DWR using a cool iron with a protective cloth between the garment and iron. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not iron zips, zip edges or logos.
